Three Charged in Assault on Chariho Football Star Outside Westerly YMCA

“WESTERLY, R.I. — Three teenaged men have been arrested and a fourth one is wanted in connection with an assault Sunday evening at the YMCA parking lot.

The Westerly Sun reported that Kristen Place, whom the newspaper identified as the mother of one 17-year-old victim, “a star player for the Chariho High School football team,” said her son “suffered three broken bones in his face and a broken nose.” Colton Place of Hope Valley, listed on the Chariho Regional High School football roster, is

Kristen Place‘s son, according to an archival obituary at the Westerly Sun‘s website.

Colton Place was named Most Valuable Player in Chariho’s Division II Super Bowl win over Central High School last fall.

A second victim, identified as a 17-year-old Westerly youth, was also treated at Westerly Hospital for minor injuries.

Matthew J. Pratt, 19, Steven McGuire, 18, and a 17-year-old youth, all from Westerly, are to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of felony assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct.

An 18-year-old Westerly man is wanted on similar charges, the police said.”
