South Kingstown Driver to Attend Counseling, Have Mental-Health Evaluation

“SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — A south kingstown man accused of drunken driving (DUI or driving under the influence) in a crash that killed one of his passengers was released on bail Wednesday following a court appearance.

Dean C. Philbrick, 46, of 50 Harcourt Ave., was released on $15,000 bail with surety following a first appearance in District Court, south kingstown. Philbrick was ordered not to drink alcohol or drive a vehicle until he complies with a court order for substance-abuse counseling. He is also to undergo a mental-health evaluation.

Philbrick, who had been hospitalized from injuries sustained in the crash, turned himself in to the police Wednesday morning.

Erica L. Knowles, a 23-year-old University of Rhode Island student, died in the Feb. 15 crash.”
