COVENTRY, R.I.—A Rhode Island daycare operator has been arrested on charges he molested three young girls.

Coventry police say they arrested 68-year-old David Lyons on Tuesday at his home. He is charged with three counts of second-degree molestation.

Police say they began investigating Lyons in July after a mother told police her 6-year-old daughter was molested. Police say Lyons and his wife, Lynda, operate a state-licensed daycare at their home.

David Lyons is also accused of molesting the girl’s 9-year-old sister and another girl, age 11, who is not related.

Lyons’ attorney did not immediately return a message seeking comment. He is due back in court on Nov. 28.

Police are asking the parents of children who attended Lyons’s day care to contact authorities if they believe they were victimized.
