Rhode Island Police Step Up Patrols to Crack Down on Drunk Driving

“The rhode island State Police are stepping up patrols through the end of the year to crack down on drivers who are under the influence of alcohol [driving under the influence / DUI].

Police Superintendent Col. Steven O’Donnell says authorities will take part in two traffic enforcement campaigns that target impaired drivers. Troopers will also be targeting drivers who are violating seatbelt and child safety restraint laws and who are texting while driving.

The campaigns are part of National Holiday Lifesaver Weekend, which is the last weekend before Christmas, and this month’s recognition of National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month.

The state police are being funded by the state Office of Transportation for the extra patrols, which will run through Jan. 2.”
