PROVIDENCE, R.I.—An armed robbery suspect is at a Rhode Island hospital under police guard and one of his alleged targets is under arrest after a shooting in Providence.

Providence police Maj. Thomas Oates III says 23-year-old Michael Badessa faces arraignment Thursday afternoon on drug charges after authorities say he shot a man holding up his family at gunpoint Wednesday night.

Oates says Badessa shot 30-year-old Jose Dearmas after he and another man broke into his home in the city’s Federal Hill neighborhood. Oates says Dearmas is facing nine charges related to firearms, home invasion and attempted robbery.

Oates say Badessa is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of one to five kilos of marijuana. He says Dearmas targeted Badessa’s home. It’s not immediately known if either man has an attorney.
