Mass. Teen Charged After SUV Overturns in Providence; 5 injured

“PROVIDENCE, R.I. — At least five people were taken to Rhode Island Hospital after a sport-utility vehicle overturned at Eddy and Point Streets around 1:30 a.m. Friday, a Providence Police official said.

Traffic Sgt. Paul Zienowicz said the operator, Dayton Deetz, 19, of Mendon, Mass., was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.

He was arraigned in District Court, Providence, on two felony charges of driving under the influence (DUI), serious injury resulting, and one charge of driving under the influence (DUI), first offense, alcohol level unknown.

Records indicate that he was released on surety bail and referred to a public defender. A pre-arraignment hearing was scheduled for Dec. 16.

The vehicle’s occupants ranged in age from 17 to 20, Zienowicz said. He described their injuries as non-life-threatening.”
