14 Rhode Islanders Arrested in Child Pornography Investigation

SCITUATE — The two-month undercover “Operation Safe Child Rhode Island” resulted in the arrests of 10 adults and 4 juveniles on charges of possessing child pornography early Wednesday, members of the task force announced at a news conference at the Rhode Island State Police headquarters.

More than 70 state, federal and local law-enforcement agents, including U.S. Marshals, Naval Criminal Investigative Services and Massachusetts State Police Computer Forensics, divided into eight teams and made arrests across Rhode Island on Wednesday.

“We are alleging that these defendants are actively involved in obtaining and sharing images of child pornography on the Internet,” said Col. Steven G. O’Donnell, superintendent of the state police.

“Our goal is to eliminate the exploitation of those most vulnerable members in our society, and hold accountable those who continue to prey on our children.”
